Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that - Martin Luther King Jr.
Truthfully, I often ask the scary question that can put your soul in a pit of darkness, “what is my purpose?” After all, I am one person in a world of billions and it’s easy to think that what we do on a daily basis doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things. Come on. Let's get real. How silly is that logic? It is proof that the enemy can so easily drive these lies into our hearts if we let it. However, if we all join together and create a tribe where we speak truth about how every person matters and every life matters, we really can change the world. So I ask myself this question: how can I take what I do and do it for the glory of God, to love people unconditionally?
Please ask yourself that same question and join me in this because together we can do so much. I want to prepare your hearts to be softened, to get excited at the possibility of being a part of something so unique and so good for our world because together, we can be the light.
Let me start by sharing with you the very thing that drives the passion in these words I speak. Jake (my husband) and I have found our footing in something so life-giving to our community and a huge helping hand to those in need. It is with our entire hearts that I get to tell you that we have partnered and have become ambassadors for Legacy and we are thrilled to tell you about it.
What is Legacy you ask?
It’s a social enterprise working to redeem, restore, empower and equip those affected by human trafficking.
It is honestly hard to believe but human trafficking is happening right under our nose. We, as a community, have the power to help. Our words can help spread a message but our actions will ignite true change.
The mission behind Legacy is, quite literally, changing lives daily. The fact that we, as consumers, can make a difference by simply buying a candle is mind boggling in all the right ways. Legacy is currently employing people at their social enterprise shop based in Columbus, Ohio with hopes to expand and help many other parts of the country in the future. Employee's at the social enterprise shop consists of former victims of sex trafficking as well as individuals that have been struggling to find work due to current hiring systems. These individuals have the desire to change their lives but are unable because of prior convictions with the law or personal struggles restricting them from finding work. The enterprise shop also provides counseling and education that will lead them to progress in their career and life goals. What is incredible about this venture is that it is a national and international movement; a mission that spreads around the world. Legacy is joining with other social enterprises to raise awareness, help those who have been exploited and is creating an outlet of opportunity for those who currently do not have one - all across the world. They are currently working to build a self-sustaining school and orphanage in Ethiopia.
This can be the start of new hope, a new future and a new life for many. This conversation does not end here.
